The Latin quote Ego Borago gaudia semper ago meaning “I, Borage, bring always courage” is the reason why borage flowers were traditionally floated in the parting wine cups given to Crusaders before their departure.

Borage has many uses; the leaves (which have a light cucumber taste) for salads, the flowers may be candied for confectionery and the plant is great for attracting bees.

This pattern is worked in the round and I use abbreviations according to US crochet language. I can provide the pattern in UK crochet language if preferred, please just contact me.

The finished borage flower is approximately 3.25” (8cm) in diameter. This flower would make a lovely brooch or hair clip.
