Free Crochet Pattern: Giant Sunflower

This pattern is fairly simple and would be suitable for a crochet beginner, it is worked in rounds. I use abbreviations according to
UK crochet language. The finished Sunflower is approximately 17cm (6.5”) in diameter. This sunflower would be ideal to make as a flower decoration or mounted in a frame.





Tools needed:
5.5mm (US size I) crochet hook
scissors
yarn needle








Yarn needed:
Chunky yarn in light yellow (approx 5g), golden yellow (5g), dark brown (2g) and tan brown (1g).

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
htr = half treble crochet
tr = treble crochet
sl st = slip stitch
sts = stitches
R = round
[…] = repeat instructions in square brackets

Giant Sunflower

Make a slipknot with the dark brown yarn. Ch 2.

R1- 6 dc into first ch. (6 sts)

R2- 2 dc into each st. (12 sts)

R3- [1 dc, 2 dc in next st] x 6. (18 sts)

Fasten off dark brown yarn. Join tan brown yarn.

R4- [2 dc, 2dc into next st] x 6. (24 sts)

Fasten off tan brown. Join light yellow yarn to any dc from previous round using only the front loop, (continue using only the front loops for this round).

R5- [8 ch, 1 dc in second ch from hook, 1 htr, 3 tr, 1 htr, 1 dc, miss one dc (of the brown) and sl st in next dc] x 12.

Fasten off light yellow. Join golden yellow in “missed” dc of previous round using only the back loop, (continue using only the back loops for this round).

R6- Repeat round 5.

Fasten off and weave in ends. Press.
